World of Coffee Dubai Announcement

The recent announcement that the SCA will, next year, hold a World of Coffee event in Dubai, UAE, has raised a lot of discussion within the SCA UK Chapter. Whilst we see the importance of bringing the coffee community together in all regions, we are concerned that a high profile event is to be held in a country where the LGBTQ+ community is discriminated against to the point of criminalisation. The SCA UK Chapter wish to see that every SCA event is inclusive for everyone and anyone who wishes to attend. Looking Forward. A letter from our National Coordinator

To all Chapter Members: The global pandemic continues to have an unprecedented effect on our industry and all that we do together in what is inherently a very social and connected community. With the announcement around WoC in Athens being cancelled and WBC & WBrC being undecided this is an indication of the uncertainty around of when we will gather together in a real environment beyond the current realms of virtual connections. An update to our recent Instagram post

Following our last Instagram post, we’ve had time to digest and reflect, and we can now see we messed up! We didn’t give the issue the thought it deserved and essentially rushed out a response rather than anything of substance. We know we need to do more! We have had some very positive meetings and discussions over the past week, which we believe are the start of an ongoing process to help improve the diversity, inclusivity and equity of the SCA UK Chapter, our competitions and hopefully that of the UK coffee industry as a whole.
