Latte Art and CIGS 2017

La Marzocco Out Of The Box isn’t even finished as this goes to press the party goes on late into the evening. An incredible event as usual with talks, panels and a great selection of coffees and even ice-cream. A huge thanks to them for putting it all on but most importantly for hosting both the UK Latte Art and Coffee in Good Spirits.

With that in mind let’s get to the matter of the scores…

Firstly Latte Art. The standard of competition goes up with every passing year and 2017 was absolutely no exception. Yesterday saw 16 competitors play out the semifinals with Dahn Tamang, Heidi Philip-smith, Don Altizo, Mridul Kalikota, Sam Davis and Kuhna Hwang making it through to todays final. Someone has to come out top and this year our new champion is Dhan Tamang from Coffee Lab for the fifth consecutive year. He’ll be taking his designs to the world championships in Budapest, Hungary next June.

playing out the top 3 were;

Heidi Philip-Smith also of Coffee Lab

followed by

Khuna Hwang

In the CIGS competitions, again standards keep increasing. Ingenuity and sourcing of ingredients played a part in all of the routines with barmanship and flair playing a larger part than in previous years.

After a hard fought semi finals, 10 were whittled down to Dan Fellows, Paul Ross, Josh Clarke, Diana Johnston, Katelyn Thompson and Dan Ioan Bacaintan.

It was Paul Ross from Origin who impressed the judges most this year, being crowned 2017 UK Coffee in Good Spirits champion. He’ll be representing the UK at the worlds Budapest

in second place Dan Fellows also of Origin

and coming in third Diana Johnston from Taylor St

 Again, a huge thanks to La Marzocco for their support and all of our sponsors; Grey Goose Vodka, Northiam Dairy, Union Roasted and Loveramics, these events cannot happen without them.

Congratulations to all the competitors for making such a strong and close fought competition.
