To all Chapter Members: The global pandemic continues to have an unprecedented effect on our industry and all that we do together in what is inherently a very social and connected community. With the announcement around WoC in Athens being cancelled and WBC & WBrC being undecided this is an indication of the uncertainty around of when we will gather together in a real environment beyond the current realms of virtual connections. As the UK Chapter the competitions have been at the core of what we do and the sense of community and purpose that these bring is always inspiring and a way to showcase the extraordinary talent that we have in the UK. Important Update Regarding UK Championships 2020-2021

The SCA UK Coffee Championships, like all coffee-related businesses, organisations and events, face unprecedented challenges in the current pandemic. Based on the strong recommendations of medical experts and scientists, large events like our competitions have been cancelled or put on indefinite hold.

An update to our recent Instagram post

Following our last Instagram post, we’ve had time to digest and reflect, and we can now see we messed up! We didn’t give the issue the thought it deserved and essentially rushed out a response rather than anything of substance. We know we need to do more! We have had some very positive meetings and discussions over the past week, which we believe are the start of an ongoing process to help improve the diversity, inclusivity and equity of the SCA UK Chapter, our competitions and hopefully that of the UK coffee industry as a whole. Preliminary Style Heats for the United Kingdom Barista Championship 2020

  We are continuing the format from last year’s competition, with preliminary style heats.  We want to continue to increased access and open up the competition, with all of its benefits, to a wider audience. With this in mind, we’re keeping the setup of the heats to closely follow the Preliminary events run as part of the United States Barista Championship (USBC). They will follow the relevant 2019 WBC Rules and Regulations and will be scored using elements from the 2019 WBC score sheets.
