2013 UK Barista Championships Regional Heat 2 Results

SCAE UK Chapter and UK Coffee Events are pleased to announce the results for Regional Heat 2 hosted by Pumphreys Coffee at  Life Science Centre - Newcastle

24 baristas from all over the country (click to view the baristas coffee shop locations) competed over 2 days in front of a good crowd.

Newcastle upon Tyne based barista Joe Meagher from Flat Caps Coffee (@flatcapjoe) scooped 3 awards; Best Signature Drink, Best Cappuccino and Overall Winner of 2013 UK Barista Championships Regional Heat 2.

Steve Dyson from Spring Espresso (@springespresso) in York  - a 4th time UKBC entrant - took second place just ahead of fellow York barista Nicola Peacock from The Perky Peacock (@theperkypeacock).

Nicola also picked up the award for Union Hand-Roasted Best Newcomer at this heat.

Union Hand-Roasted barista trainer Chris Walton (@espressochris) received the award for Best Espresso.

UK Coffee Events Regional Heat 2 Announcement

UK Coffee Events is pleased to announce Pumphrey’s Coffee as the host for Regional Heat 2 of the 2013 UK Barista Championships.

Following a successful regional heat in 2012, the dates have been set for 15th – 16th February 2013, at Life Science Centre, Times Square, Newcastle upon Tyne,Tyne&Wear,NE1 4EP.

Roaster, Trainer and Head Barista at Pumphrey’s Coffee, Stuart Lee Archer said “We at Pumphrey’s Coffee are once again proud to host the regional UKBC heat. We developed such a buzz last year that the regional standard of coffee quality and service dramatically improved. We can’t wait to see what happens after this year’s event.“

Pumphrey’s Coffee has 3 Sanremo Verona TCS competition spec machines and invites local baristas entering the UK Barista Championships to contact them to arrange practice times.

Registration for 2013 UK Barista Championship competitors will be managed online this year. Entry has been set at £25 and registration will be via a link placed on

Lynsey Harley, SCAE UK National Coordinator said “We are pleased that Pumphrey’s has stepped forward to host a regional heat as we received brilliant feedback from all competitors and visitors to their heat last year. The North East region is producing some great baristas and they’re actively helping make coffee accessible to the public.“

The top scoring baristas from the regional heats will go through to the finals, which will be held at The London Coffee Festival (25th – 28th  April 2013), and one of them will be crowned UK Barista Champion 2013 and go on to compete in the World Barista Championship in Melbourne, Australia (23rd – 26th  May 2013).

Judges Training and Calibration is scheduled to take place at Masteroast in Peterborough- 7th – 8th January 2013. Anyone wishing to certify as a UK Coffee Events Judge is invited to register their interest by emailing Jamie Banwell
