2013 UK Latte Art Championship

SCAE UK Chapter and UK Coffee Events are pleased to announce the results for the 2013 UK Latte Art Championship held on Friday 26 April at The London Coffee Festival – hosted by Allegra

10 of the UK’s finest latte artists battled out for the title and a chance to preresent the UK at the World Latte Art Championship to be held during SCAE World of Coffee in Nice in June

The links below contain competitor details for the 2013 UK Coffee Events being held at The London Coffee Festival – organised by SCAE UK Chapter / UK Coffee Events

Although the event starting times have been set, the final competitor performance times are being finalised. As some competitors have entered more than 1 event on a day the running order may change at short notice.

The provisional running orders are contained in the links below. Competitors will receive entry instructions by email early next week once times and entry details have been finalised.

The 6 UK Barista Championships Finalists will be announced after all 20 semifinalists scores have been calculated. The announcement is due to take place just before 1900

The Final of the 2013 UK Barista Championships will take place after the 2013 UK Cezve / Ibrik competition and is due to start at 1330 on Sunday 28 April 2013

Details of the 2013 UK Cezve / Ibrik competition will be released once finalised.

UK Coffee Events Registration Update

In addition to the UK Barista Championships, UK Coffee Events – the competition and events arm of the SCAE UK Chapter) runs the UK Cup Tasters Competition, UK Coffee in Good Spirits, UK Brewers Cup, UK Latte Art Championship and the UK Cezve / Ibrik Competition

Registration for these events is managed online at www.ukcoffeeevents.com and entry has been set at £25 per person per event

All of the events listed below will be taking place at The London Coffee Festival , hosted by Allegra Events

UK Coffee Events Update – some events are almost full

The introduction of online registration has proven itself to be hugely successful so far. We have almost filled a number of UK Coffee Events categories for 2013!

To make sure you don’t miss out on a place please register online at www.ukcoffeeevents.com

Team UK return from Korea with a trophy

Team UK returned from the Cafe & Bakery Fair in Seoul with an extra item of luggage in the form of a 4th Place trophy – won by Dan Fellows in the World Coffee in Good Spirits Championships.

Dan Fellows (2012 UK Coffee in Good Spirits Champion / 4th Place World Coffee in Good Spirits) and Liina Nutman (2012 3rd place UK Latte Art) represented the UK, ably assisted by Sang Ho Park, who provided valuable support over the past week.

On behalf of the SCAE UK Chapter we’d like to congratulate both Dan and Liina on their performances and thank Sang Ho for his valuable assistance.

Registrations will open in December for the 2013 UK Coffee in Good Spirits, UK Latte Art, UK Brewers Cup, UK Brewers Cup and UK Cezve / Ibrik and UK Cup Tasters competitions.

UKCE 2013 Host Requirements

Planning for the 2013 UK Coffee Events Competitions is underway and we are already receiving interest from Baristas.

We are seeking hosts for the 2013 season and have published the UKCE 2013 Host Requirements Document.

Please download the document and contact Jamie Banwell if you would like to be considered as a Host for 2013.

Traditionally the competitions run from late January to late March and the final will be held at The London Coffee Festival 25-28 April 2013.

Brewing and Grinding fundraiser event – 30 May 2012

A fundraising event in aid of raising funds to send our 2012 Latte Art and Coffee in Good Spirits Champions to represent the UK at the Café & Bakery Show in Seoul (Korea), 1-4 November 2012 has been planned for 30 May 2012.

SCAE UK Authorised Trainer, UKBC Sensory Judge and barista coordinator of the SCAE UK Chapter – Denise Hall,  will be holding a training day on 30 May which counts towards credits for the SCAE Coffee Diploma System.

Times: 0930-1700

Location:  units 1 to4 myco garden centre, elder street, wimbish, saffron walden, essex cb10 2xa

Cost:

  • £150 for levels 1 and 2 with no exams
  • £300 for examination and credits towards the Coffee Diploma System

We have a new Latte Art Champion for 2012.

Congratulations to Peter Attridge who headed off Nikos and Liina to win this event.

The 2012  UK Latte Art competition took place on Thursday 01 March at Hotelympia, hosted by Fresh RM.

Paul Miekle-Janney led the calibration of this years judges, and the feedback from the judging team has been outstanding, with those who were mentored already looking forward to judging next years competition!

Thank you Paul for passing on your knowledge and helping set a great base for the future of this competition.

There were some interesting designs put forward, and the standard was really good.

Some photos and videos will be online early next week.

Any donations for drinks consumed on the exhibition machines provided by San Remo and manned by the volunteers and baristas are gratefully received.

We now have entrants for the Northern Ireland heat on 20 March. Applications for the Northern Ireland Heat are still being accepted too. If you’ve been inspired by performances so far, or the Best Newcomer Prize  sponsored by Union Hand Roasted then please download and fill in an application form as soon as possible.

Coffee in Good Spirits takes place on Wed 29th Feb, with Latte Art taking place on Thu 01st Mar. Both events start at 1030
