Roasting and Cupping Competition dates announced…

1st ever UK Roasting Competition to be held at Glasgow Coffee Festival

We are pleased to announce that the first UK Coffee Roasting competition will be hosted at the festival with the help of sponsors Diedrich, Falcon Specialty, Mercanta, La Marzocco, Espresso Solutions, Dear Green, Coffee Nexus and Bunn.

The competition is spread over 3 days, with a day at Dear Green, a day at Coffee Nexus, and then the final day of scoring and judging at Glasgow Coffee Festival on Saturday 17 October, at the Briggait in Glasgow.  The judges will be Head Judge Mans Akne Andersson, John Thomson of Coffee Nexus and representatives from both Falcon Specialty and Mercanta.

Entry to the competition will be £35,which includes full entry to the festival.

About Glasgow Coffee Festival
The festival’s aim is to educate, serve, entertain, and inspire coffee consumers!   Visitors are invited to meet coffee professionals, sip and slurp their way around our carefully chosen gathering of roasters baristas, artists, brewers and bars whilst viewing competitions, art, film and photography!  Workshops and presentations are all free to attend, watch national competitions, learn latte art,  enjoy a ‘cupping’ experience, upgrade your home brewing kit, all in one day under one roof with all of your favourite coffee bars, beans, baristas and brewers.


Cupping Competition at Cup North

Our Cupping Competition is going to be held at Cup North on the 7th November.

There are 24 available spaces with entrance costing £18, which includes entrance to the event.

We’re delighted to announce that the UK Cup Tasters Competition registrations will go live at 5pm today and close 5pm Tuesday 5th May or when we fill all 30 competitor places.

The competition will be held 14th May 2015 at Caffe Culture - you can register for your free tickets to the event here

Our UK champion will go through to compete in the World Cup Tasters Competition held in Gothenburg at the World of Coffee event.

Caffe Culture To Host UK CIGS & Cup Tasters Competitions

The Caffè Culture Show will host the SCAE Coffee In Good Spirits and UK Cup Tasters Competitions on the 13th and 14th May 2015 at London’s Olympia, Upper Streets Events can announce.

To mark the ten year anniversary of the leading trade event for the café sector, the best talents in the barista world will compete in two fiercely-contested battles with the winners representing Great Britain at the World of Coffee in Gothenburg in June 2015.

Steve Leighton, SCAE National Coordinator, has commented, “It’s wonderful that the SCAE UK chapter and Upper Street Events are working together on the Coffee in Good Spirits and the UK Cup Tasters competitions – the Caffè Culture show is the perfect platform to raise the stakes for these amazing competitions and we’re so happy to be working together”.

Cheryl Carroll, Event Director of the Caffè Culture Show continued, “We’re absolutely thrilled to be working with the SCAE to give these competitions a fitting home and are very excited about this new element of the show. We know the show’s visitors have a huge appetite to learn more from the most innovative minds in the business, and we can’t wait to see what the nation’s leading baristas have in store for us when they come together at Olympia”.

With already over 65% of the floorplan now allocated and with more new feature content just being finalised, the 10th birthday show is looking set to be one of the best yet so not one to be missed.


MICE 2014 & First Wave of The World Championships

MICE 2014 starts tomorrow and we’re so very proud to have our UK champions out there competing over the next three days.

Dhan Bahadur Tamang from Caracoli Coffee House will competing in the World Latte Art Championship

Jason Gonzalez from Colonna & Smalls will be competing in the World Cup Tasters Championship

David Jameson from Union Hand Roasted will be competing in the World Coffee In Good Spirits Championship

We wish them all the very best of luck, we’re so proud of all of them and will be cheering them on every step of the way!!

2014 UK Cup Tasters and Latte Art Championship Results

Day one of The London Coffee Festival is over; a busy, busy first of the industry days which also saw the finals of our Latte Art and Cup Tasters Championships. Scores and champions below….

We’re pleased to announce the winner of the 2014 UK Cup Tasters Championship is Jason Gonalez, who scored 7 6.10 minutes, from Colonna and Smalls who will be going through to the World Cup Tasters Championship in Melbourne.

Second place goes to Alex Passmore with a score of 6 in 4.41 minutes

Third place goes to TJ Phllips who scored 6 in 6.36 minutes

Registration for the Cup Tasters Championship 2014 is now live.

The first round of the competition will be held at the Super Heat at Millennium Point in Birmingham on 12th February.

The 6 winners of the heat will go through to semi finals and then on to the finals, these will be held on 3rd April at The London Coffee Festival.

2013 UK Cup Tasters Results

SCAE UK Chapter and UK Coffee Events are pleased to announce the results for the 2013 UK Cup Tasters competition held on Thursday 25 April at The London Coffee Festival – hosted by Allegra

21 of the UK’s finest cup tasters battled out for the title and a chance to represent the UK at the World Cup Tasters Championship to be held during SCAE World of Coffee in Nice in June

The winner of this event was Jason Gonzalez of Colonna and Smalls (Bath).

Although the event starting times have been set, the final competitor performance times are being finalised. As some competitors have entered more than 1 event on a day the running order may change at short notice.

The 6 UK Barista Championships Finalists will be announced after all 20 semifinalists scores have been calculated. The announcement is due to take place just before 1900

The Final of the 2013 UK Barista Championships will take place after the 2013 UK Cezve / Ibrik competition and is due to start at 1330 on Sunday 28 April 2013

Details of the 2013 UK Cezve / Ibrik competition will be released once finalised.

In addition to the UK Barista Championships, UK Coffee Events – the competition and events arm of the SCAE UK Chapter) runs the UK Cup Tasters Competition, UK Coffee in Good Spirits, UK Brewers Cup, UK Latte Art Championship and the UK Cezve / Ibrik Competition

Registration for these events is managed online at and entry has been set at £25 per person per event

The introduction of online registration has proven itself to be hugely successful so far. We have almost filled a number of UK Coffee Events categories for 2013!

To make sure you don’t miss out on a place please register online at
