SCAE UK AGM and Open coffee community event – 16 November

Monday, October 31st, 2011

First ever UK coffee community forum in association with SCAE UK, is being held at the ICO, Berners Street, London on 16th November 2011

1pm start for SCAE UK AGM, followed by open meeting for all from 3pm

Agenda
1pm-3pm SCAE Members Only
Covering basic administration, housekeeping and lobbying by those interested in standing for some newly available positions such as National Coordinator

From 3pm the meeting will be opened up to everyone who wishes to attend.

The idea is to have an open discussion and take questions or suggestions, to make observations and criticisms, offer to help, to get involved and to generally have a rant if required.

We have decided to make the event open to all, so that all those who have been vocal or critical of the SCAE and the UK chapter, in particular in the past, can take this opportunity to step up and air their views.

We would like to invite anyone in the coffee industry to come along and have their say.

Clearly we hope that everyone with a point to make will attend and SPEAK so we can support, develop and promote the UK coffee industry for the benefit of all.

If you are unable to attend but would still like to raise a point, please email info@scaeuk.com

Minutes of the meeting will be posted as soon as possible afterwards

How to become a UKBC Judge for UKBC 2012 and 2013

Sunday, October 23rd, 2011

The certification programme for certifying UKBC judges for 2012/2013, will be held courtesy of Masteroast Coffee Company, Peterborough, 21st and 22nd November 2011.

Applications for this years certification programme are now being accepted.

The UKBC judges certification process is a 2 day programme based on WBC judging parameters and requirements where those who are successful are certified as UKBC judges for 2 years.

Prior to attending the accreditation programme you will need to be familiar with the WBC Rules and Scoresheets, available for download here

During the 2 days you will be tested on your knowledge of the rules, taught how to correctly interpret and apply them, as well as being tested on sensory skills and technical attributes of the coffee making process.

The tests, although challenging, will help you grow personally and you will be able to apply many of the skills learned during your day to day activities as a barista / trainer.

Past UKBC entrants will be on hand to make coffee and run through mock presentations to allow you to become confident in applying the skills learned throughout the certification days.

We encourage applications from all sectors of the coffee industry, and we are looking for both Sensory and Technical Judges, each requiring a different set of skills.

As some judges reach the end of their 2 year certification after this years finals, we will be holding next years programme at around the same time in 2013.

Anyone interested in certifying for 2012 / 2013 can download the judges applicatin form from the following link

We are also actively seeking judges for the other SCAE UK events, and welcome applications by the same methods as above

Enter the UKBC 2012 for only £25

Friday, October 21st, 2011

We love feedback, and took your concerns onboard about the tiered pricing levels for entering the UK Barista Championships in 2012.

The UKBC working party has revised the entry fee to an affordable £25 for all entries received prior to the first regional heat.

We understand that most baristas who enter are self funded, and that keeping the cost down will help expose more talent and encourage more baristas to enter.

There is no longer premium charged for non-SCAE members.

Anyone who has already sent in their payment will receive a refund for the difference.

You can download the UKBC 2012 Entry Form using the following link http://scaeuk.com/downloads/UKBC-2012-application-form.pdf

The World Barista Championship 2012 Rules and Score Sheets have also been uploaded. The UKBC uses these throughout the competition.
